Hola IES Núm. 1 de Xàbia:

Hoy por la mañana no ha sonado el despertador y hemos llegado tarde al desayuno.

Después de desayunar nos hemos subido al autobús y hemos recogido a los ingleses en Tukums. Más tarde hemos comido un trozo de chocolate y nos hemos subido a un barco que nos ha dado un paseo por la entrada del mar Báltico y hemos visto algo muy curioso, estaba lleno de vacas gigantes: la vaca negra muy grande que estaba partida, la vaca rosa que estaba en un banco, la vaca marinera, que era azul y blanca y la vaca maleta que era parecida a una maleta.

Después del barco hemos ido de 'shopping' un poco 'caca' pero bueno, es que era un mercadillo con cuatro abuelos mataos. Más tarde, como hacia mucho frio, hemos entrado a una cafetería donde casi no había sitio y nos hemos sentado en una mesita de juguete. A continuación nos hemos ido a comer; todas hemos comido pescado. Cuando acabó la comida nos fuimos en autobús a un museo que nos ha enseñado cómo vivieron las personas hace mucho tiempo. Habíamos visto un sitio donde se podía jugar, así que todos hemos ido allí y nos lo hemos pasado bomba!!! (pero también hemos visto las cosas antiguas como casas de madera) después todos hemos ido en un tren muy antiguo pero que aún funcionaba (con carbón). Nos hemos ido a un parque muy bonito y a la playa y al final hemos vuelto al autobús para ir al hotel. Muy cansadas, hemos dormido todas en el autobús.

Ahora vamos a tener una cena muy chulita.*

* Nota de la profesoras: después de la cena (donde no han tenido que comer pescado) han compartido unos bailes (waka, waka y Macarena) con el grupo de Noruega delante de todos los estudiantes. Muy participativas estas niñas.

Hoy por la mañana no ha sonado el despertador y de repente llaman a la puerta: 'llegáis minutos tarde' era Mábel, rápidamente las dos habitaciones en cinco minutos y a toda prisa arregladas.

Nos hemos ido a otro pueblo y en el autobús todas las españolas dormidas. En un bar al que hemos ido nos ha tocado sentarnos en unas sillas de bebés (que ni siquiera cabía medio culo) y Paula y Cristina, cómo no, se han quedado encerradas en el baño. Después hemos ido a comer y nos tocaba pescado (estaba más malo que el pienso para los perros) *

Fuimos a dar una vuelta por una playa en el mar Báltico y hemos cogido piedrecitas. Mañana nos veremos.

*Nota de las profesoras: han comido lenguado rebozado con sésamo en uno de los mejores restaurantes de la ciudad, donde nos ha llevado la directora del instituto.

Letonia - Diario de viaje - 7 Octubre 2010

Hola IES Num 1de Xàbia:

Hoy 7 de octubre de 2010 nos hemos levantado a las siete y media de la mañana para desayunar pronto, hemos probado un crepe que estaba asqueroso, salchichitas, tomate, leche con Nesquick (por cierto todos se morían de envidia porque ellos no tenían). Después hemos ido en el minibus bueno con los noruegos hasta el colegio Tume Vidoskola y nos han recibido super bien, con diapositivas, canciones, bailes tradicionales y lo más divertido es que nos han sacado a bailar.

Más tarde nos han dividido en dos grupos, en uno estaban Marta, Helen y Cris, en el otro Paula, Julia y Andrea. Primero unas han cocinado y las otras han hecho las páginas del calendario escolar de la vida saludable y después al revés. A continuación hemos ido a la cantina y hemos comido más o menos bien. Después de comer hemos ido a hacer gimnasia y las inglesas no hacían nada así que por su culpa el grupo de Paula, Helen, Marta y Andrea lo perdía casi todo.

Cuando hemos acabado la actividad de deporte hemos ido a patinar sobre hielo. Molaba muchísimo, hemos encontrado muchas nuevas amigas y también amigos, ja, ja, ja. Cuando hemos acabado de patinar volvimos al calorcito y hemos subido todas arriba al restaurante a comer carne/pescado. Las pobres Helen y Marta han tenido que esperar muchísimo tiempo para comer y cuando llegó la comida era pescado.

Hemos hablado muchísimo inglés y hemos mirado una partida de ice hockey. Más tarde nos hemos despedido de las personas que nos han enseñado el colegio y hemos vuelto en el mismo autobús que nuestras amigas noruegas.

Ahora estamos haciendo party con las noruegas y maquillando a los chicos.

Ayer por la noche en la hoguera de la bienvenida, la directora soltó un discurso, habló de la final del mundial de fútbol contra Holanda y nombró a Isabel y le dio un regalo para la escuela delante de todos y el profesor holandés que es super tonto se hizo el loco mientras todos aplaudían. Ella se puso super roja.

Hoy en el colegio nos han hecho un concierto (cantar y bailar) y después sacaban a bailar a quien quisieran y han sacado a Marta, Helen y Cristina, las tendríais que haber visto bailar con niños pequeñajos, ji, ji, ji, muy monas.

Hemos hecho galletitas, cada una hacia su letrita del nombre, y estaban muy ricas. Después de comer hemos hecho mucho deporte, haciendo carreras,nos hemos pegado revolcones y todo. A continuación nos han llevado a la pista de patinaje dónde Marta y Mª Eugenia se han pegado una buena culada.
Ahora estamos en nuestra suite con nuestros compañeros de noruega que los estamos maquillando como chicas a todos.

Letonia - Diario de Viaje - 6 Octubre 2010

Hola I.E.S. Núm. 1 de Jávea:

Hoy, 6 de octubre, nos ha despertado Cristina. Hemos preparado lo que nos faltaba de las maletas y después hemos ido a desayunar y nos hemos encontrado con los holandeses (que por cierto son holandesas). A las 10 hemos salido del hotel y hemos cogido un minibús que nos ha llevado al hotel nuevo (que es una pasada). Cuando hemos llegado y hemos visto las suites nos hemos peleado por ellas, pero después se supone que lo hemos arreglado y hemos ido a comer. Antes de la comida las profes nos dieron una pequeña charla. Al acabar hemos hecho el sorteo de las habitaciones y a Andrea, Helen y Marta les ha tocado la que no querían y ha habido malos rollos entre todas. Por la tarde hemos salido con las bicicletas por todo el bosque, nos hemos divertido mucho y se nos han pasado los cabreos. Cuando hemos ido a dejar las bicicletas y mientras el conserje le estaba arreglando a Cristina el enganche de la chaqueta y la bicicleta, hemos conocido a los de Noruega, son muy simpáticos y, por cierto, saben hablar algo de español. Después de lo ocurrido nos hemos ido al parque donde nos lo hemos pasado muy bien con un columpio gigante y a continuación hemos regresado al hotel.

LETONIA - DIARIO DE VIAJE - 5 Octubre 2010

5 OCTUBRE 2010

Hola I.E.S. Núm. 1 de Jávea:

Hoy 5 de octubre de 2010 nos ha vuelto a despertar Marta. Por fin hemos desayunado leche con Nesquik. Hemos salido muy abrigadas porque hoy por la mañana hacia un frío horrible. Hemos cogido el tranvía hacia el centro de Riga y hemos entrado al centro comercial para comprar medias calentitas y lo que hiciera falta. Después de comprar los leotardos y el gorro nos lo hemos puesto.

A continuación nos hemos ido a un museo de muñecas muy interesante, dónde una chica muy simpática nos ha hecho la visita en inglés y nos ha enseñado muchas cosas; entre ellas que los osos de peluches en inglés se llaman “Teddy bear”, a causa de que un día Theodor Roosevelt salió a cazar un oso y los dueños del bosque para asegurarse que cazara algo, ataron un oso pequeñito a un árbol y cuando el presidente vió que era un osito le dió lástima y lo soltó. Al día siguiente salió en el periódico y una mujer decidió hacer un osito de peluche al que llamó “Teddy”. También había muñecas viejas chulas, una de 200 años.

Después del museo hemos subido en un barquito super mono y nos lo hemos pasado super bien, porque a parte de reirnos, hablar, y hacer fotos había paisajes muy bonitos y sobre todo patos. Cuando se ha acabado el recorrido del barquito hemos ido al Macdonals dónde hemos comido de lujo.

Más tarde las profesoras nos tenían una “sorpresa”: La gymkana en la ciudad para hablar en inglés con las personas de Riga y para demostrar lo aprendido. En el juego teníamos que buscar unos monumentos:“House of Blackhead, St. Peter's Church, Cat's House, Dome Cathedral, Gun Powder Tower, Swedish Gate, Three Brothers”. Las ganadoras han sido Martha, Helen y Julia, aunque en verdad hemos ganado los dos grupos. Y para celebrarlo nos han comprado un Crep de chocolate como recompensa.

Finalmente, hemos vuelto al centro comercial para comprarnos unas sudaderas y hemos vuelto con el “tram” al hotel para empezar a hacer las maletas, porque mañana nos vamos a Tukums.

Adiós Riga, hola Tukums.

POSTCARD

Hoy 4 de octubre hemos empezado el día yendo al mercado de Riga, que es uno de los mas grandes de Europa -está dentro de unos hangares donde guardaban aviones-. Después hemos cogido 'el tram' hacia las calles modernistas de la ciudad, donde hemos visto embajadas como la de España, Hungría, etc. Después comimos perritos calientes y seguimos viendo edificios modernistas. A continuación nos fuimos al hotel y entramos todas a la habitación de Helen y Julia donde escuchábamos música, planchábamos el pelo, nos reíamos...

Después a las 6 o por ahí nos fuimos al centro comercial y cenamos y después cogimos 'el tram' y volvimos.

4 OCTUBRE 2010

Hola IES Num 1de Xàbia:

Hoy 4 de octubre de 2010, en vez de Helen y Julia hoy nos ha despertado Marta. Hemos desayunado un poco mejor que ayer. Después de desayunar nos hemos planchado todas el pelo. Cuando todas estábamos listas, hemos salido a ver más de Riga. Primero hemos ido a ver el mercado cubierto más grande de Europa porque las salas en las que estaban la mitad del mercado, antes (en la guerra) guardaban aviones. En el mercado había muchas cosas, sobretodo zapatos, carne, fruta, pescado ahumado, que olía muy mal etc.

Después hemos cogido un tranvía y hemos cruzado Riga hasta el barrio donde hemos mirado todas las casas bonitas que había y nos hemos dado cuenta de que las casas más bonitas son azules y blancas o rosas. Hemos pasado por la embajada de España, que estaba en la calle de Isabel (Elizabetes iela). Como todas teníamos hambre nos hemos comido un perrito caliente (un 'hot dog', porque las profes nos hacen pedir las cosas en inglés). Cuando volvíamos al hotel hemos visto aún más casas, una más bonita que la otra, una de ellas tenia una esfinge, que es una mujer con cuerpo de león. Por fin, y muy tarde hemos llegado todas al hotel, hemos descansado un poco y hemos comido las frutas que habíamos comprado en el mercado. Una hora y media después vino Isabel diciéndonos que nos íbamos de shopping, y nos hemos ido muy contentas al centro comercial de Riga (pero el pequeño), no hemos encontrado nada pero al final nos hemos comprado souvenirs. Hemos cenado allí en un restaurante llamado Cilli, con la barriga llena volvemos al hotel. Ahora estamos escribiendo y no os podemos decir lo que pasa después porque tampoco lo sabemos...

Ayer por la noche corrigiendo las cartas estuvimos discutiendo si gobierno iba con b o con v y con la frase : El gobernador que gobernaba Gobi pasaba hambre, Isabel se lo pasó 'mazo chuli'.

Hoy en el parque Mª Eugenia y Mábel han hecho una carrera contra Helen y Cristina, y lo más gracioso es: ¡Qué han ganado las profesoras!.

En el mercadillo hemos visto imitaciones de marcas de zapatos muy mal hechas, que hasta Andrea 'a mano alzada' (como se dice en plástica) las hace mejor.

Después por la noche al salir de compras y cenar hemos ido a coger el tranvía, que hemos recorrido más buscando la parada que en el propio tranvía.

NEWSLETTER Mid-project Meeting Xàbia 14-16 April 2010

On April 14th, 15th and 16th 2010 the IES Núm.1 Xàbia hosted the Comenius Healthy Living Mid-Project Meeting. This event was attended by the seventy teachers and students coming from our eight Comenius partner schools from Scotland, United Kingdom, Norway, Latvia and the Netherlands, as well as students and teachers from our school.
All participants were picked up at their hotels at 19:00h. When they arrived at our school, they were given some materials regarding their visit: a commemorative t-shirt, a booklet with the agenda and activities and an identification badge. While we waited for the three last schools to arrive (Kirkhill Primary School, AOC Friesland and SSG De Rede), a group of teachers and students showed the school to the visitors.
Afterwards, they were served a welcome dinner at the school canteen, preceded by a band concert of traditional music and a speech by the Headmaster, Vicent Chorro.
On Thursday 15th at 9:00 in the morning, we all gathered at the Avenida Augusta, next to our school, where we planted a tree and a stone monolith, both donated by the Town Hall of Xàbia, in commemoration of the project. This event was attended by Filo Giner, Xàbia’s Head of Education who came in representation of the town’s Council, the Headmaster of the IES Núm.1, teachers and students of our school, representatives of the Department of Social Services and all of the visitors from the Comenius Project. In his speech, Vicent Chorro (Headmaster), compared the tree to the work we have started with the project and hoped our visitors would come again in the future to see it grow.
The tree was -despite its small size- a mature oak (Quercus rotundifolia). The monolith was made in “tosca” stone, a sedimentary type of stone typical in Xàbia, and the commemorative inscription was written on ceramic tiles made in the old traditional Valencian style.
After planting the tree, the students attended some activities and workshops at our school, while the teachers attended a meeting to discuss project issues.
The youngest students (Kirkhill, Gosen and Friesland) learnt how to make soap in a workshop organized by the Department of Biology. The eldest students (Methwold, De Rede, Seja and Tume) attended a workshop called “The Smoking Bottle”, an experiment organized by the Department of Physics and Chemistry which aims to prevent young people from smoking by showing them the terrible effects of just one cigarette. Finally, students in mixed groups prepared some posters showing the healthiest foods and activities in their areas, helped and coordinated by the Department of Art.
Then, the Department of Dietetics offered a conference about the Mediterranean diet, relating it to a healthy diet. After that, we prepared -and had- sandwiches made with healthy local products.
In the meantime we received the first news about the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjalla and the ash cloud that was forcing some airports in Northern Europe to close.
In the afternoon, the group was taken to the beach for some sports and activities in the sun while some teachers continued and finished their meeting. Finally, after all the activities, the groups walked back to their hotels in the Port Area to relax and get ready to meet again for dinner at the Cantina del Port, a typical sailors’ restaurant, where they could taste Arròs a banda, a typical rice dish cooked in fish stock, which does not include fish pieces. Others preferred to have vegetarian paella, another typical dish cooked with rice and vegetables. They also had a taste of All-i-oli, our most typical mayonnaise-like sauce, made with garlic and olive oil (and sometimes egg).
In the morning of Friday 16th the media announced that most of the air space in Europe would remain closed due to the ash cloud, which complicated the return trip of our visitors and would affect the final stages of their visit.
While some teachers tried to make new arrangements for their return home, most of the group was taken to a sightseeing tour around the main viewpoints of Xàbia, guided by teachers of the IES Núm.1 and accompanied by voluntary students. Two coaches picked up teachers and students and took them to the viewpoint of Cala d’Ambolo, from which you can see the Island of Ambolo (also known as Illa del Descobridor, Discoverer’s Island), named after one of the sailors who was in Christopher Columbus’s crew in his first voyage to America. From this point, the group could see the surveillance tower of Ambolo and Granadella Cove.
The next stop was at Cap de la Nau (the Cape of the Ship), from which we could see the Pesqueres de Cingle, only accessible via ropes and ladders, which were the only way for the many fishermen who did not own a boat to earn a living.
The group was then taken to the viewpoint of Cap Negre, which offers one of the most amazing views of Xàbia and the Island of Portitxol. The group walked through the Camí de Lambert (Path of Lambert) passing by Cap Prim and Cap Sant Martí and several creeks up to La Caleta, where the coaches picked up the group and took it back to school for lunch.
At the school canteen, the pupils had pizzas and the teachers had a similar item (called Coca), typical of our area, cooked with traditional ingredients (onion, tuna, anchovies, peas, spinach, tomato, red pepper, etc.). They also had fresh organic orange juice, fruit and ice-cream.
After some free time to rest, the group was taken to the Old Town in Xàbia, which dates back to the Medieval Ages. In two smaller groups, they were taken for a tour (in English), organized by Xàbia’s Council. They visited the fortified church of Sant Bertomeu, a unique piece of Mediterranean Gothic architecture, which served as a shelter from pirate attacks; the medieval chapel of Santa Anna; the Soler Blasco Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology; and the Mediterranean streets of Xàbia.
At 20:00h the visitors of the Mid-Project meeting were received at the Town Hall by the Mayor, Eduardo Monfort, and the Head of Education, Filo Giner. There our Headmaster, Vicent Chorro, thanked the Council for their cooperation in the event. The mayor welcomed the visitors and praised the work done and encouraged us to continue with the project, hoping this would lead to more of these events. After his speech, he gave each school a coat of arms of the town of Xàbia. Finally, Lorraine Napier, Headmistress of Kirkhill Primary School and project coordinator, thanked the Mayor and the Council for their hospitality.
After the reception, a group of representatives of each partner school attended an official dinner -chaired by the Mayor and the Head of Education- at Restaurant La Perla. The dinner was a selection of traditional appetizers and two types of rice dishes: a typical paella (cooked with meat and vegetables) and Arròs Melòs de peix, a local speciality which contains a star ingredient: gamba roja (red prawn), a prized shellfish that can only be caught in the sea which separates the Valencian Community from the Balearic Islands and at a depth of over a thousand meters.
The rest of the group attended a farewell dinner at the school canteen with a barbecue, music and dance.
Thus the Mid-Project Meeting officially closed. Nevertheless, the airport situation had got steadily worse so we realized our visitors would have to stay in Xàbia for at least two more days. Hence, teachers met again on Saturday morning to try and solve the return transport problem. After a long day of negotiations, we decided to extend the program two days so that our visitors could get to know Xàbia a bit more while they waited for means to go back home.
On Sunday 18th, the morning was dedicated to the sea. An ambulance and lifeguard were arranged for the safety of the group, so that the students could swim in the sea at the Arenal Beach. In the afternoon, some teachers visited Denia, our neighbouring town, capital city of our county and one of the oldest in our area.
On the sunny and warm morning of Monday 19th, most of the schools (Tume, Seja, Sunde, Gosen and Kirkhill) walked up the Natural Park of Montgó to the Cabo de San Antonio (Cape of San Antonio), enjoying the views of the bay of Xàbia. This park and walk are also beautiful for the many species of plants that can be found, over six hundred. The park is also special for being one of the three last places where the indigenous flower Silene Ifacensis still grows.
After lunch at the picnic area of the Natural Park, the group visited the Molins, a group of old wind mills built in the 14th and 15th Centuries, which have been restored and preserved.
Finally, we walked down back to the Port and the hotels, where we said goodbye, as the majority were leaving the next morning.
The difficulties the volcano caused and our visitors’ long journeys home will probably become just an anecdote that will have made this visit yet a more unforgettable event. Work continues…

Norwich and Methwold High School visit March 2010

Methwold High School hosted a study visit for the Secondary Schools subgroup of the project on March 3-6. This visit was attended by pupils and teachers from AOC Friesland, De Rede, Gosen School, IES Núm.1 Xàbia and Methwold High School.

During the first day, guided by a group of students from Methwold, the groups visited the City of Norwich and all its highlights (Castle, Museum, city centre, shopping area, The Forum, The Cathedral...). After a long day, the groups had dinner and played in teams in Quasar.

On the second day, all groups travelled by coach to Methwold High School, where the pupils could play Bench Ball, Quick Cricket and cooked Sausage rolls. After luch at their school canteen, they all travelled to the Beach. The trip took them through the beautiful countryside of Norfolk. After dinner at a popular Fish & Chips bar, the group went bowling and we had to say goodbye, although some of them would meet again in April, at the Mid-project Meeting held in Xàbia.

El instituto de Methwold ha acogido una visita estudio para el sub grupo de institutos de secundaria del proyecto del 3-6 de Marzo. A ésta asistieron alumnos y profesores de AOC Friesland, De Rede, Gosen Skole, IES Núm.1 Xàbia y su anfitrión, Methwold High School.

Durante el primer día, guiados por un grupo de alumnos de Methwold, los grupos visitaron la ciudad de Norwich y sus lugares más emblemáticos (el Castillo, el Museo, el centro, la zona comercial, el Forum, la Catedral...). Tras un largo día, los grupos cenaron y jugaron una partida por equipos en Quasar.

Durante el segundo día, los grupos viajaron hasta Methwold High School, donde los alumnos tuvieron la oportunidad de jugar a Bench Ball, Quick Cricket y cocinaron Sausage rolls. Tras comer en la cantina del colegio, se trasladaron a la playa. Por el camino pudieron disfrutar del paisaje de Norfolk. Tras la cena en un bar de Fish & Chips, el grupo jugó una partida a los bolos y se despidió de los anfitriones, aunque algunos volverán a encontrarse en la Reunión de Mitad de Projecto que se celebrará en Xàbia en Abril.

Food, sleep and activity diary

Our students have been writing diaries about what they eat, the sports or activities they do and the hours they sleep. One of the purposes of this activity was to reflect on their habits. Here you can see some examples of what the students in 1ºESO have done.

Nuestros alumnos/as han estado escribiendo diarios sobre lo que comen, los deportes y actividades que practican y las horas que duermen. Uno de los propósitos de esta actividad es la reflexión sobre sus hábitos. Aquí se muestran algunos ejemplos de lo que el alumnado de 1º de ESO ha hecho.
